The term DLC has been introduced into the gaming world and it has had its ups and downs in it's brief history. Here I am going to dissect Downloadable Content into 3 categories...and remember like all things gaming related this is opinion, I am sure some people hated Halo Reach and loved Kayne and Lynch 2....
Here are some examples from this category...
DLC: Time Is Money Pack
For: Skate 2
Price: 400 MS Points

For 400 MS points you can unlock all the content already on the disc and it could be yours for free if you'd just do what you are suppose to to do and actually beat the game.
Are you serious....
Microsoft didn't think they were getting enough of your money as it was so they introduced the Avatars over Xbox live...cute and fun right? Well they are making a HUGE profit on items and clothes for Avatar can have...the only problem with these items is that they serve no function at all. I refuse to pay for anything for my Avatar...if he had to go naked on my dashboard so be it!

Sony and Home...I can customize my avatar with some fresh new clothes for actual Real money or just wear the same navy blue shirt with khakis like 90 % of the guys on there...the other 10% pretend to be females as they walk around home in Daisy Dukes! Come on Sony...I can go online and play with my friends for free but you are actually gonna charge me for some clothes for my Avatar....I call foul good sir!

DLC: Darth Vader
For: SoulCalibur IV
Price: 400 MS Points
Namco Bandai had this cool idea to include exclusive characters on the 360 and PS3. Namco was making Darth Vader and Yoda "exclusive" to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of SoulCalibur IV respectively, things got dicey when they offered Darth Vader to Xbox 360 users for the price of 400 Points.
With-holding a character for the sole purpose of selling him for a few extra bucks is grounds for extortion Bandai Namco!!!

DLC: The Rest of the game
For: Beautiful Katamari
Price: 200 MS Points each
Beautiful Katamari, is one of the most famous DLC controversies, where a selection of 200 Point stages effectively completed the game. In order to get all the Achievements for Beautiful Katamari, in fact, you are required to buy and play the rest of the game being offered in downloadable form. This may go on my list as the Worst Scam EVER....

Here is my second Category:
DLC: VS Mode, Lost in Nightmares, Desperate Escape
For:Resident Evil 5
Price 400 MS Points each
Resident Evil 5 was a great game. BUUUUUUTTTT..... The DLC left a bad taste in my mouth. First was Vs...available for 400 MS points a week after the game released....What?! I can play mercenaries against people ...hmmm on Gears of War and Army of 2 this was free...back in the a Vs mode of a game was usually (no ALWAYS) FREE! Then a while later there were two mini games released titled Lost in Nightmares, and Desperate Escape. These were fun to play and a nice addition however...they could have easily been items that were unlocked after beating the game on the highest difficulty setting. $60.00 dollars is a lot to shell out for a game....let's give the fans some extra love Capcom...

DLC: Knothole Island
For: Fable II
Price: 800 MS points
DLC: See the Future
For: Fable II
Price:560 MS points
I like Fable II...I like it a lot. The main quest wasn't as long as I liked, however it was fun. The addition of the dog was a nice touch and the co-op wasn't perfect but fun. Then came Knothole Island. All 4 hours of it...Honestly it was cool, but could have been included with the original content.

The "See the Future" was another micro expansion and I think it relied on people either going all in in the fable world...for seven bucks... there are arcade games better than this...nice expansion but again it could have been included with the original game.
Fable III...yes the recently released Fable III already has another adventure ready to tackle...I haven't played it...but here is a quote from IGN
"Twenty-two minutes.
That's how long it took me to complete the new mission in the first Fable III downloadable extra: Understone Quest Pack. (I even timed it with my iPhone stopwatch.) And even at a discounted price of 400 points and the inclusion of two minigames as well as some free weapons, that is a both tremendous disappointment and a poor deal."

Well let's move on to less depressing DLC...
The Category I like the most!
Grand Theft Auto IV
Big blockbuster games these days can be filled with expensive DLC. Fortunately, GTA IV isn't one of those titles. Instead of overcharging for new skins, or vehicles, Rockstar Games choose instead to release two entirely new chapters to the story called Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned and The Ballard of Gay Tony. As a result, these episodes raised the bar for what DLC should be.

Little Big Planet
Is there another console game cuter and more imaginative in its content than Little Big Planet? On top of the user created levels and the amount of flexibility innate in its design, Media Molecule has supported the game long term with ongoing DLC packs. These come as either themed levels or costume packs, and you can honestly take your pick from any number of fun options. Want to dress Sackboy like characters from Watchmen,Pirates of the Caribbean or Metal Gear Solid 4? Go for it. Great game fore sure!!! Great DLC!

Borderlands
The initial Campaign was such a treat. Borderlands is an addicting and huge Diablo-esque FPS that rewards its co-operative players with epic loot, frenetic battles and dozens of quests. After the cool campaign was complete they hit us with The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, then it was Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and finally Claptrap's New Robot Revolution. What, did I forget the Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot? nah....that one belongs in category 2 it should have came free with the game...as it is more or less a Horde /Fire Fight mode.

Fallout 3
Bethesda had already made a master peice with the original game...then came 5 additional huge updates to Fallout 3 that explore not only more of the game's area, but taken players as far as Alaska or even the southern coastline with hillbillies. On top of that, they've opened up the level cap and extended the main tale of the game with Broken Steel, and given glimpses of a more sci-fi feel with Mothership Zeta. While some of these things have been hit and miss with players, the new weapons and added hours are enough incentive to keep on playing, and everyone will find something that they like. It was enough content to make it worth purchasing a game of the year version...worth every cent.

Now DLC comes out a week (or sooner) after the game is released. Do you feel cheated as gamers that developers seem to have content developed for the sole purpose of being purchased after you bought the original game? So what's the true cost of games these days? $60.00 for the initial purchase, maybe 5 bucks for some new clothes for your character, 15 bucks for a map pack, maybe a 10 bucks for a prequel level. When will enough be enough? Do some research and read reviews from several sites before making that purchase as DLC can't be returned.
