In a time and place where Master Chief, Kratos, and Marcus Fenix have dominated the charts and the gaming world, many gamers have identified with these Men of Men and how they have conquered their enemies in a dominant fashion.  These characters have flexed their muscle and showcased their rage on the screen as virtual slayers of the video game world.  However dominant these male characters have been, there have always been female characters that can hang with the big boys of the video game world.  There have been many top tens listed all over the web of best female characters, or top ten sexiest female characters..so I won't go there...I simply want to acknowledge a few female characters and what they have brought to the world of gaming for guys and girls. 

                

 
Starting off with Princess Peach.  She first started off as Princess Toadstool for those old school gamers.  Her name didn't really change unitl 1996 when she was called "Peach" in Mario 64.  Sometimes a change in name can bring about a change in career.  This woman played the damsel in distress in her first couple of outings, I remember getting my first chance to play as her in Mario 2 for the Nes.  She had a neat little glide that added to her playability in that classic platformer.  She has played in countless games for the big N over the years.  From her humble beginnings as a hostage of Boswer to being featured as a bone cracking warrior in the Smash Bros. Next up is the world famous Samus Aran.  Back in 1986 gamers got thier first chance to play as a bounty hunter on a home console.  To anyone who has seen the original star wars trilolgy...they know Bounty Hunters were extremely cool.  (Boba Fett)  So in a major surprise ending (probably the number 1 surprise ending of video games to date) this character in a battle suit who was fought aliens through countless boards and missions removes "her" mask....yes her mask....Think about it...even in the manual of the game..they elude to Samus being a male protagonist.  The idea to make her female actually came half-way into the game.  A today's comparison is like finding out Master Chief is a woman at the end of Halo 3.  People would be shocked..and freaked out no doubt.  Samus Aran holds it down as the first female protagonist in video games.  If there were any before her...they still weren't as cool as her that is for sure! From 1986 till 2009 Samus is still a deadly foe to face.  And as a bounty hunter she always gets her man...err creature or thing!   

Next up is a very special lady that I hold near and dear to my heart.  She can defy gravity (no... not with those!) with her spinning bird kick.  And who can forget tapping the kick buttom to bring up her Hundred Rendering kick move!  Her historical background in the gaming world is marked by being the first female in a fighting game.  As sexy as she was deadly she entered the Street Fighter Tournament back in the day to search for M. Bison who murdered her father.  I pity the fool to mess with a woman who has the largest hands in any Street Fighter game! There have been additional female character's introduced in Street Fighter mythology but Chun Li still has a leg up on them all!

There is no female character in Video game history that has become more popular after her death. than Aerith.  Aerith Gainsborough also known as Aeris is a famous female character from the Mega popular Final Fantasy VII game back on the PSX.  She is the first character shown in the intro of the game and is a really sweet protagonist.  She befriends and hires Cloud to be her bodyguard in exchange for a date.  (Raise of hands...who all remember's going on that date!!!) She becomes a nice addition to the team.  As she is pursued by Midgar's Turks.  While on her quest she discovers that she is an ancient.  A character that has ties to being the first race to live on the planet.  While the journey was getting more explosive and pulling gamers deeper into the world of Final Fantasy VII a true horrific event took place.  Sephiroth, the master of all things evil makes his mark on video game lure.  As Aerith is praying at an alter Cloud finds her.  The two have eye contact and smile...then the unthinkable happens...Sephiroth appears (stupid jerk!) with his 20 foot sword and impales her...she lives no more....This is one time in gaming that death felt like death...hey you lost your girl only after one date!  Aerith's death served two purposes..firstly it solidified Sephiroth one of the most respected and feared villains EVER, and it created a HUGE fan following for a character who died in a game.  In memory of Aerith...we still miss you!
