Grinding it out...

Trilogies are common place in all forms of entertainment.  There are books that are trilogies (Lord of the Rings) movies that are trilogies (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings) and Video Games (God of War Trilogy, Mass Effect Trilogy (soon to be finished).  In less than a years time we will be treated to our first trilogy that started and finishes on the xbox 360.  The Gears of War Franchise has been setting the bar for graphics in the industry since 2006.  The first title was a hit and sold 6.04 million units.  The campaign was great and offered a great co-op adventure.  If you had a 360 Gears and Emergence day was on your mind in 2006.

When a new game was released it was always compared graphically to Gears of War.  And usually the game compared to Gears of War lost the comparison question...The characters were likable and memorable (Cole Train Baby!!!) 2008 had the sequel that could teach a lot movies how to correctly pull off a sequel.  (Hello Transformers: Rise of the Fallen)  Gears of War 2 pushed and pulled the Greatest things gamers seek in a sequel.  More importantly it had the three B's...  Bigger, Better, and more Bad Ass.  It sold 5.69 million copies and was easily the best game on any system that year.

Many companies promised and planned for trilogies on the xbox 360.  Epic comes through first.  Gears of War 3 is coming in less than a year and some details are already leaking as far as game play mechanics.  We can look forward to 4 player co-op first of all.  This is something gamers have asked for since part 1.  There is also an arcade mode which will add to the replay ability for  the campaign.  I hope they bring Horde back in this sequel and throw Locust and Lambent running at you and your crew.  The third title will easily sell past 5 million copies.

If you take video games and trilogies and stack them up...Gears may be the top of the pick.  Let's look at some other trilogies...Prince of Persia, appearing on the Game cube, ps2, and xbox had the pleasure of  having that great series.  I think Gears tops it because of the replay ability, multi-player, and co-op functions.

Even the Halo Series (a personal favorite of mine) can't really claim the moniker Trilogy anymore.  The order of events happen from Halo Wars, to Halo Reach, to Halo, to Halo 2, to Halo:ODST, to Halo 3.  That isn't even in the order of each title was released....great series but not a trilogy.  Also when playing the entire story line from start to finish the graphics will be taking a hit and getting better and worse as time goes on.

The God of War Series ranging from Chains of Olympus, to God of War 1,2, and 3 ranging 3 systems.

The great thing about the Gears Series...It starts on the 360 and it ends on the 360.  It will take you on a ride from point A to point B to point C in a clean and easy package.  You will be able to sit back on a weekend and play through Gears 1, 2, and 3 on the 360, and see the evolution of a great franchise all on one system. Microsoft has always used Gears to show case how power of the system.  Gears of war 3 will be no different.

Well I can't wait for Halo Reach this year....but Gears will be on my mind for a while..I will be getting it for sure to complete my perfect trifecta in gaming.
