Mario, Link, and Samus. Three iconic  video game characters that have survived the test of time. How many publishers and developers do you think would love to get a crack at making games with these characters.  Nintendo, the God Father of gaming has all three plus many more tried and true characters in their ever growing stable of million dollar products.

 Pika Pika...need I say more.

Nintendo may have been labeled for kids only over the past two decades..but they have taken that title all the way to the bank for sure.  They were dominate in the days of NES, Dominate again in the time of Snes, the Nintendo 64 had it's ups and downs..but the killer titles it produced are still found in the memories of many gamers.  Mention Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, Smash Brothers...and gamers will go gaga...

World revolutionary game...

The First Party Console Shooter...

Redefined what a fighting game is...

Then there was the Game Cube...poor gamecube...I think this pick says it all...

Sure the Game Cube finished third in the previous cycle of  consoles...but Nintendo rebounded with a killer combo upper cut to take Sony out of First Place and push them into third while Microsoft stays number two again.  Nintendo itself is synonymous with video games with Mario as a poster child for the industry itself.

There was always that rivalry between Sony and Nintendo...with Sony usually coming out on the winning side...but now the tables have turned financially with Sony posting a Billion Dollar Loss...a first in 14 years...but Sony still has it's supporters right?

Sack Boy...what do you think about that???

Yeah.....that's what we thought...

Let's take a look at these numbers ... thanks to wiki

To 20 Console Games of all time:

1. Wii Play (Wii – 22.98 million)

2. Nintendogs (DS – 22.27 million, all five versions combined)

3. Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green (Game Boy – 20.08 million approximately: 10.23 million in Japan 9.85 million in US)

4. New Super Mario Bros. (DS – 18.45 million)

5. Wii Fit (Wii – 18.22 million)

6. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES – 18 million)

7. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (DS – 17.41 million)

8. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (DS – 16.81 million)

9. Mario Kart Wii (Wii – 15.4 million)

10.Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2 – 14.89 million shipped)

11. Mario Kart DS (DS – 14.61 million)

12.Pokémon Gold and Silver (Game Boy Color – 14.51 million approximately: 7.6 million in US, 6.91 million in Japan)

13. Super Mario Land (Game Boy – 14 million)

14. Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day! (DS – 13.71 million)

15. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (GBA – 13 million)

17. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (GBA – 11.82 million)

18. Super Mario 64 (N64 – 11 million)

19. Gran Turismo (PS1 – 10.85 million shipped)

20. Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS – 10.79 million)

All about the Dollars!!!

Out of 20 slots Nintendo holds 17...of all time.  No wonder why they call their monthly Magazine Nintendo power.  They may not have the hardcore gamers attention...but I know at lot of people of have a Wii...Two things can be said about the Big N...they do  know how to make fun games and they know their money!

Sales right now have Nintendo smashing both Sony and Microsoft right now whether it be Casual games or not...

Mario has evolved from a 2-d side scrolling sprite into and 3-dimensional force in the gaming world.  He has been through the Olympics, drove numerous race tracks, danced with the stars, and even went toe to toe with Sonic the Hedge Hodge and Solid Snake in his own game on his own system.  The guy has been through  his fair share of battles and adventures and is still there with a smile on his face.

He even brought the blue guy over to his side.

Sega and Nintendo???

Side by Side no less...

Samus has evolved as well...from a nameless bounty hunter to a heroine supreme.  Her Zero suit debut has won over even more fans.  Her battles have grown darker with each game.  Especially with Metroid the Other M coming soon...

Link..what else is there to say here...as good as Mario has been money wise Link has brought the "cool" factor to Nintendo with his hero look, good deeds, and his ability vanquish evil no matter how great the task may be.

Nintendo may have made mistakes in the past, but lucky for them their brand backs them up.   They have so many  fun characters on their roster that if a battle royal erupted the sheer number of Nintendo's First Party characters trumps what Sony and Microsoft have to offer.

VS

Master Chief, and Kratos may be cool... and sure they could wipe out the entire smash brothers roster with ease...but they have decades to go before they can ever touch Nintendo's Big 3.

So after more than 2 decades the phrase Nintendo Power still carries weight! Right Mario?

Classic Iconic Hero...

Nintendo = Video Games.

The company itself become an icon, let alone all of the iconic characters they have created. Topping Nintendo will require much more than just selling a few successful franchises.

Is the Top 20 list for real though?? Wii Play is the highest selling console game of all time??? that's insane!
